The First Animal Astronauts
These pioneering space animals did not volunteer to travel into space, but their adventures captured the imagination of millions as they watched these animals make history.
- Laika, a mixed-breed dog, was the first living being in orbit. She was launched on the Soviet Union’s Sputnik 2 mission in November of 1957.
- A rhesus monkey named Sam is shown after his flight in December of 1959, which tested the launch-escape system of NASA’s Mercury spacecraft.
- Enos the chimpanzee being readied for his orbital spaceflight of November 1961.
Laika was the first traveller into space. If you feel like being really depressed, read about how she died:
…in October of 2002, during a gathering of the World Space Congress in Houston, Texas, it was revealed by Dr. Dimitri Malashenkov of the Institute for Biological Problems in Moscow, that after five to seven hours following the launch of Sputnik-2, no lifesigns were being received from Laika. By the fourth orbit, it was apparent that the little dog had passed away from overheating and stress…undoubtedly an exceedingly painful and distressful death.
[In 1998], one of the former lead scientists who had worked on the Soviet “animals-in-space” program expressed his deep regrets regarding Laika:
“The more time passes, the more I’m sorry….
We shouldn’t have done it….
We did not learn enough from the mission to justify the death of the dog.”Chimpanzees are picked because they have physical and mental characteristics similar to man - and because they can’t say no.
They weren’t “brave” or “heroes” because they didn’t had a choice. “Victims” would be more appropiate.
I see why he let the frost giants in…
HAHAHAHA!
Yes really. Everytime I see that deleted scene I’m like “Cows don’t have horns like that! Goats do! Odin’s horns look more like a cow! What the hell, Thor?”
this is headcanon now. done.

Corey Cann, right, was last seen Febuary 22nd, 2013 by his family. If anyone has seen him they are urged to call the Plano Police Department! (630-552-3121) On Monday (630 552 3122) will be available to call.
Guys, I don’t personally know Corey. But I seen this reposted on my facebook page, so I decided I’d look into it. Since I live in Illinois, I don’t care who goes missing where, I just want them to be found because i know i’d be just as terrified as his parents and family are if somebody i knew went missing.. I live Chicago, so I can’t do much to help besides spread awareness. After looking at the “Find Corey Cann” facebook page, i seen that Plano Police Chief Steven Eaves told the Patch that Corey Cann is currently being treated as a missing person by the police department. “As of right now, we’re looking at a missing person. If it does become a kidnapping or abduction, we will change the status,” he said.
i clicked on some of the news links that are on the page talking about Corey, and according to Corey’s brother, Ed, He was the last to see his brother on Friday Night. Corey asked if a few friends from college could come over. Ed said that was fine, as long as he texted his mother at work first. Ed said two men did the last to see his brother on Friday night. Corey had asked if a few “friends” from college could come over. Ed said that was fine, as long as he texted his mother and told her. Ed said that two men did arrive at the house and asked if Corey lived there, because they wanted to see him. Ed let them in and quickly went to secure the family dog in another room because she was acting “out of character” By the time he got done calming the dog down, he realized the house was silent and he thought he heard a truck drive away outside. When he went to see, Corey and his “friends” were gone. Ed tried calling Corey’s cellphone for several minutes, but it kept going to voicemail. Ed said a woman reported to the police Sunday morning (2/24/2013) that she seen Corey on the back of a tan pickup truck in his power chair.
Who knows how far he can be if he was in a car.
PLEASE reblog. Whether you live in Illinois or not, the more people who know the faster he can be found!
